Public Lands & Recreation

The Clear Creek County Recreation Department envisions an outdoor recreation system that is accessible, attractive and resilient and optimizes both sustainable tourism and quality of life for our community members.

RECREATION IN CLEAR CREEK COUNTY

Clear Creek County is home to 4 “fourteeners”, miles of backcountry trails, two ski areas and also boasts Clear Creek itself, attracting anglers of all stripes and where tens of thousands go rafting every year. See below for information and links to our Open Space program, our Trails system and the Recreation Center located in Idaho Springs. For more, check out things to do in Clear Creek County.

RECREATION PROJECTS

Clear Creek County works to collaborate with out neighbors and to develop new recreational amenities in service to our residents.  See below for recent or active projects.

  • Recreational Sport Shooting – The Sport Shooting Project is a regional partnership with counties and land managers.  The parties agreed to create public sport shooting facilities that would eliminate dispersed shooting on USFS land. Learn more here.
  • Open Space Projects – The Open Space Commission manages Open Space lands in Clear Creek County.   Click here to learn about their ongoing projects.
  • Clear Creek County Recreation in the Outdoors Management Plan (ROMP) -  The Clear Creek ROMP is a county-wide recreation planning project funded by a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant. The goal of the ROMP is to identify a vision and values, key projects, partnerships and funding mechanisms that will help Clear Creek County protect our natural resources and provide high quality recreational amenities for residents that can support a sustainable economy. An open house on the topic will also be held on Nov. 2nd.  Learn more by clicking here.
